Segel told Goldstein that he should at least pitch it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least get the other lead actors interested so they could hear that Harrison Ford was brought into the project. Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was still excited. Crisp, great writing, just enough confusion to keep it from becoming The Big Bang Theory for middle schoolers, and a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like that, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticism from this perspective is just negativity to bring down ratings. Are some of the characters stereotypical? Yes, but no offense and nothing to take, FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype shown here. The real success here lies in combining the seriousness of the therapy and pain with the pain of growing up in life at different ages, stages, and lifestyles, and making it funny. Really, who knew Harrison Ford was such a light-hearted comedian? Full disclosure and the show is worth watching for him alone.
