Men and women live in a giant underground silo, with different rules that they believe will protect them from the toxic and ruined world above. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are what science fiction is all about. Season 1 covers the first 30 chapters of the book “Wool” – the book consists of 82 chapters. The fans on the floor spin in the wrong direction in various episodes, compared to the direction of the blades. Spinning this way doesn’t push or pull air. An interesting take on the story of an underground bunker, a people who have survived underground for so long that a civilization has developed within them, with traditions, myths, beliefs, rituals and ceremonies rooted in events that have long since been forgotten. A status quo social structure is established. And when the status quo that maintains order is challenged, execution and punishment ensue. A power structure is established that creates a figuratively and literally stratified population from the top of the silo to the bottom. That’s the premise, and while it’s not entirely original (think Snowpiercer, Dark City, etc.), there’s enough novelty here, and it’s done well for a TV series. Good acting from Oyelowo, with familiar faces in Rashida Jones and Will Patton. (But as you can see from the show’s poster, they’re guest stars, giving way to the regular cast, with Rebecca Ferguson in the lead role.) The show looks pretty decent, with good production values. There are elaborate sets and good CGI to provide a believable atmosphere. While a suspicious mind will spot some obvious conspiracies early on, there are mysteries that are revealed that will keep you glued to the screen.
